What we collect, and what we do with it.

Short version: an email address, whatever you choose to tell us about a watch, and nothing else. We do not sell it, we do not share it, and you can have it deleted by asking.

What we collect

When you submit the form

Your email address, which we need in order to reply. The role you select, if you select one. Whatever you paste or type into the listing box. Alongside those, our server records the IP address the submission came from and your browser's user-agent string, which are standard web-server details kept to detect abuse of the form.

When you just read the site

Our host keeps ordinary web-server logs: pages requested, time, IP address, referring page. We do not run advertising trackers and we do not use cookies to follow you between sites. The one cookie the site may set is a session cookie on our own internal pages, which only we log into.

What we do not collect

We never ask for and never want payment details, government identification, serial numbers tied to your name, your address, or anything about your finances. If you include something of that kind in a listing description, tell us and we will remove it.

Why we collect it

To answer you. An assessment is a reply to a specific question about a specific watch, and we cannot send one without an address to send it to.

To improve the service. Submissions tell us which references people ask about and where our estimates were wrong. We use them in aggregate for that purpose: the pattern across many submissions, never a profile of you.

To keep the form usable. IP addresses are checked against a short-term rate limit so nobody can use our form to send mail to a third party.

What we never do

We do not sell your information. We do not rent, trade or share it with marketers, dealers, or anyone hoping to sell you a watch. If you send us a listing, we do not pass it to the seller, to a competing buyer, or to anyone else. We are not a marketplace and we take no position in your transaction.

We do not publish anything that identifies you. If a submission informs something we write, it appears as an unattributed example with identifying detail removed.

Where it lives

Submissions are stored on the server that hosts this site, in a location that is not reachable from the web. Notification emails are delivered to a mailbox controlled by us. No third-party analytics or CRM service receives your data.

Our hosting provider and our email provider necessarily process the data in the course of running those services. They are bound by their own agreements with us and do not use it for their own purposes.

How long we keep it

Submissions are kept while they remain useful for improving estimates, which in practice means a few years rather than a few weeks, because the value of a submission is only known once we learn what the watch actually sold for. If you ask us to delete yours, we do, regardless of how old it is.

Your choices

See what we hold
Email us and we will send you everything associated with your address.
Correct it
Tell us what is wrong and we will fix it.
Delete it
Ask, and we remove your submissions and your address. No process, no form, no reason required.
Stop hearing from us
Reply to any email and say so. We write rarely in any case.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act. We extend the choices above to everyone who asks, wherever you are, which is simpler than working out which rules apply to whom.

Children

This site is not intended for anyone under 16 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

If this page changes materially we will note the date below. We will not retroactively apply a weaker policy to information you have already given us.
